On New Yorkers…

“This is one of our customs as New Yorkers when welcoming foreigners to our shores. Because we are so often frightened by living here, we are annoyed and offended when visitors fail to show the proper signs of terror. So we try to scare the living daylights out of them. And if oblique auguries of physical peril don’t work, well then, we can always talk about rent.”

If it was in any way possible, I think I would have hibernated here for the rest of the winter.

The New Yorkers

They are essential and overwhelming.

They are always folded in half and then stuffed- into bags, into pockets, under arms.

They are part of my city; they are the extension of my education.

And they are all over my apartment. Just like this.
